RESTORE OREGON

MCM DESIGN SERIES

MAY 10-11, 2019

Rummer Fun was one of five MCM homes featured in the 2019 home tour focusing on historically sensitive renovations.

It was very fun to meet so many MCM enthusiasts and talk about our home renovation projects and options available for anybody renovating their midcentury home.

Check out the feature article in The Oregonian.

Check out our cement pond!

Jethro, it's time to clean the pool.We have been centering all of our attention on the interior since the day we got the keys. Yesterday afternoon our attentions turned outside! We had a couple of visitors floating in the pool. They seemed pretty content, but didn't...

Cork flooring goes in!

We started installing the cork flooring the other night. After a few hours of intense installation, we had TWO rows in! To save time and keep our marriage intact, we called John (floor installer). The master bedroom, hall, and closet are nearly done and we hope to...

LESSON #34: Brown is NOT brown…

Some brown is GREEN... and not a good green. What? That's not what we want! I found a piece of old trim with the original brown paint on it and took it to Rhodda for a match. It actually is a perfect match to an OLD color they had...CP103 Oxford BrownThey still can...

When one door closes… another opens!

Rumor had it that the original floorplan of our Rummer had a door between the dining room and family room. Our dining room wall was covered in diagonal tongue and groove cedar planks and must have been installed sometime in the mid 80s. The only way to find out if a...

Two Rooms: Done!

We let each kid pick the carpet and paint color... and they painted their own room (with a little supervision from Mom and Dad.)Max picked an electric, steel blue for his walls and a "jungle" green closet. The loft is all ceiling and windows, so thank goodness we...

The Atrium is Perfect

...for a heated and highly competitive game of four square! All work and no play make us all too dull... and grumpy. So it was fun to goof around a bit with the kids on Easter. (You can tell it's still a construction zone with all the dust flying in the air.)It did get...

Atrium/Loggia update

Steve is working late tonight on the house, so I thought I'd do a quick update. (Steve can fill in with the details later.)We have made huge progress this week on the atrium and loggia:1. Removed tile in loggiaThis was a bigger job than we thought it would be. We...

Family, Friends and Brothers

What would we do without them?Family:First, my mom rocks! She came over the other day and brought me lunch. Then asked what I was working on. (The carpet in the hall needed to be ripped out.) So my sweet mom (in her pant suit and blouse) grabbed the crow bar and tore...

Lattice be gone!

Flashback: It's the end of January and we just found the house listed on Craigslist. We throw the kids in the car, mapquest the address, and hit the road. It's an adventure. Driving through the hilly neighborhood we finally see it. The Rummer in the ad... "custom...

Starting at the bottom… sort of.

Well, we’ve been working on this place for just a little more than a week and here’s some of what we’ve discovered so far. (I will post pics when I download them off the camera)1- The floor in the living room does indeed slant toward the outside. At first I thought we...

Phase I

I thought now might be a good time to tell you what our plans are for this cool house.1- New floors in every room except kitchen & family room (those will get re-done in phase II... or maybe III, or IV...)We're putting cork in the master bedroom, living & dining...

WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE?!

Steve – Writes commercials, plays drums and tennis (often with vintage rackets), and digs MCM style.

Haley Is an amazing graphic designer and lady-boss, is developing an obsession with travel, puts up with noisy band practices, and also digs MCM style.

Steve was born in SoCal, raised in NorCal and has lived in the Great Pacific Northwest for many many years. Haley was born and raised nearby in NE Portland.

Together they’re attempting the seemingly impossible; to bring this great house back to its MCM Grandeur and raise two nutty kids (who are now adults!) …and not drive each other crazy in the process!

Life is kooky, but always a fun adventure!

PLAN B… THE TRAILER

Just in case the whole home restoration thing doesn’t work out! We have a ’56 Airstream Safari that we’re restoring in our spare time. 🙂
